Stopping the Sale of Illegal Drugs on Social Media

While fentanyl overdose deaths are beginning to drop in the U.S. for the first time in a decade, fentanyl still has a devastating impact on communities in Indiana and across our nation. We need to do more to address the flow of these drugs that are poisoning young Americans, including distribution via social media.

I joined my Senate colleagues in reintroducing the Cooper Davis and Devin Norring Act, which would require social media companies and other communication service providers to take on a more active role in working with federal agencies to combat the illegal sale and distribution of drugs on their platforms. This critical data will also empower state and local law enforcement to combat fake fentanyl-laced pills and prosecute those who prey on America’s youth.

The Cooper Davis and Devin Norring Act will give law enforcement officials more tools to combat the illegal sale and distribution of drugs. The legislation is supported by the families of Cooper Davis and Devin Norring, as well as National HIDTA Directors Association, Snapchat, Partnership for Safe Medicine, the U.S. Deputy Sherriff’s Association, The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies, Mothers Against Prescription Drug Abuse, the Community Anti-Drug Coalition Association, the Alexander Neville Foundation, and the National FOP.

Securing American Drone Dominance

As President Donald Trump seeks to reestablish American leadership in unmanned aerial systems, I sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought urging swift action on the long-awaited Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) rule. This rule is essential to providing the regulatory certainty needed to safely scale drone operations across the National Airspace System.

Our nation’s strength has always been fueled by our ability to innovate and outcompete our adversaries, but over years of government stagnation, our domestic drone industry has suffered. The economic and national security threat posed by drones produced by our adversaries is grave, and the only way to counter it is to remove unnecessary and prohibitive regulations, and empower our American companies to conduct domestic research, testing, manufacturing, and deployment.

Celebrating 100 Years of Quantum Mechanics

The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution I helped introduce to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the development of quantum mechanics.

The resolution recognizes the need to maintain America’s global leadership in quantum science and the societal benefits promised by the technology, while also highlighting the critical role that U.S. universities, laboratories, and private sector innovators play in advancing this cutting-edge field.

Quantum mechanics is one of the most exciting frontiers in modern research, and for a century, it has driven transformative breakthroughs that power our economy and strengthen our national security. This resolution honors the legacy of American leadership in quantum mechanics—and reaffirms our commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation through continued investment in research, education, and collaboration.
