Protecting America’s Food Security and Ag Supply Chains

As Chairman of the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology, I recently introduced a bipartisan package of bills focused on protecting America’s food security and agriculture supply chains.

Biotechnology offers tremendous opportunities to strengthen America’s food security and spur innovation in agriculture, both of which are critical to our national security. These bills will help the United States maintain global leadership in emerging biotechnology and ensure the benefits reach more Americans.

Inside Indiana Business

I recently joined Inside Indiana Business to discuss my efforts to bring shipbuilding back to America. My bill – the SHIPS for America Act – will restore our nation’s shipbuilding capacity, which is critical in our competition with China and deterring future conflict.

While building more American ships is good for our national security, it also will provide new opportunities for American workers, including in our state.

Indiana is home to three ports and the Corn Island Shipyard in Spencer County. Hoosier steel manufacturers could benefit from the increased need for steel to build these new ships. Small component manufacturers across the state would likely see additional demand. Since the bill’s introduction, numerous Hoosier small businesses have shared how the SHIPS Act could lead to more growth or opportunities for their workers.

Reviving American shipbuilding will take time — but the cost of failing to act is even greater. Congress should pass the SHIPS Act to keep pace with China, support American workers, and reclaim U.S. maritime supremacy.

I joined the 2025 Indiana Housing Conference in Indy to discuss my provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that leverage private sector investment to increase the stock of affordable housing in both urban and rural communities.
