Welcoming Transportation Secretary Duffy for I-69 Bridge Project Tour and Briefing

Image

This week, I welcomed U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy to southwest Indiana to discuss progress on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing bridge project. We were joined by Governor Mike Braun, Congressman James Comer (R-KY-01), Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06), Congressman Mark Messmer (R-IN-08), Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN-06), Indiana Secretary of Transportation Matthew Ubelhor, Kentucky Secretary of Transportation Jim Gray, and other local officials.

During the visit, we all received briefings on the bridge project and participated in an aerial tour of active construction.

I appreciate Secretary Duffy taking the time to join stakeholders from Indiana and Kentucky for a tour of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project. Once completed, this new corridor will enhance the connection between Indiana and Kentucky and unlock significant economic benefits for southwest Indiana. Completing this project is a major priority of mine, and I look forward to continued collaboration with the DOT.

Reversing Biden Admin's VA Abortion Rule

I joined U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and over 70 members of Congress in sending a letter of support for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) proposal to rescind a rule from the Biden Administration that promoted abortion services at VA facilities.

Rescinding the Biden Administration’s rule is also a prime example of the appropriate deregulation that the American people expect from this Congress and the Trump administration. The Biden rule was an unconstitutional overreach that was not authorized by clear statutory authority. Congress passed the Veterans Healthcare Act of 1992, which specifically prohibits VA from providing abortion services unless a medical emergency presents a threat to the life of the mother.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Image

We will never forget the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and the way all Americans were unified following the attacks.

Thank you to all who heroically responded that day and those who have responded ever since.

Countering China's Maritime Aggression

Image

I recently introduced the Helping Allies Respond to Piracy, Overfishing, and Oceanic Negligence (HARPOON) Act to combat the devastating economic, environmental, and geopolitical impact of China’s illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing around the world.

The legislation would expand U.S. cooperation with partner nations, namely in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, on maritime security through joint Coast Guard patrols, intel-sharing, and security assistance for countering illegal fishing and maritime coercion.

China is aggressively pursuing maritime dominance in the South China Sea, building and militarizing artificial islands, staking illegal claims to vast swaths of ocean, vacuuming up wildlife, and recklessly pushing out fishermen who depend on those resources to provide for their families. China’s actions threaten our national security and the economy and ecology of the region. The HARPOON Act will spear China’s maritime ambitions and send a message that the CCP’s aggressive behavior cannot continue.

Revitalizing American Shipbuilding

I appreciated the Navy League of the U.S. recently recognizing my work with Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) to restore America’s maritime dominance.

It’s time to pass the SHIPS for America Act through Congress.
