Helping First-Time Homebuyers

I joined with Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) to introduce the Uplifting First-Time Homebuyers Act, legislation to help more Americans buy their first home by increasing the Individual Retirement Account (IRA) tax exception withdrawal limit for first-time homebuyers.

Homeownership is critical to strengthening families, building generational wealth, and cultivating stronger communities. By updating the IRA withdrawal limits to better match the realities of today’s economy, our bill will unlock more opportunities for Americans to become homeowners and invest in their future.

Opposing Effort by Senate Democrats to Raise Energy Costs for Hoosiers

Image

I spoke on the Senate floor last week against a resolution offered by Senate Democrats that would have increased energy costs for Hoosiers by reinstating outdated limits on Indiana’s power plants.

Rather than working to keep energy generation steady and reliability predictable, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle attempted to advance a repeal that would have punished Indiana at the worst possible time. Hoosiers should not pay more because government insists on regulating yesterday’s grid instead of today’s realities.

Long COVID Roundtable with Secretary Kennedy

I joined Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a Long COVID roundtable focused on understanding and addressing this chronic condition impacting millions of Americans.

I am grateful to HHS and Secretary Kennedy for making this conversation a priority and to our researchers and innovators for working diligently to support those facing these challenges.

Celebrating 100th Birthday of Hoosier World War II Veteran

On his 100th birthday, I honored Hoosier World War II veteran Clyde Milligan on the Senate floor.

Milligan enlisted in the United States Army at sixteen years old, guarded America’s beaches from U-boat attacks, deployed to the South Pacific, and returned home after the war to live a life marked by patriotism and faith.

As Clyde celebrates this monumental birthday, we send him our best wishes and enduring thanks.

Ensuring Equal Rights for Faith-Based Student Groups on College Campuses

I recently joined two of my Senate Republican colleagues, Senators James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), in introducing the Equal Campus Access Act of 2025 to ensure that religious student organizations will not face discrimination on college campuses.

America’s college campuses should be places where students feel free to live out their faith. The Equal Campus Access Act would protect religious liberty and strengthen the freedom of expression on campuses to ensure that students are afforded the same rights as all Americans.
