Passage of My Bill to Formally End Gulf & Iraq Wars

Last week, the Senate passed a bill I authored with Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) against Iraq. The legislation was adopted as an amendment to the Senate’s version of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act. The House’s version of the FY26 NDAA also included the legislation.

The Gulf War started 34 years ago, and the Iraq War began 22 years ago. These conflicts have long ended, and today Iraq is a partner, not an adversary. It’s time for our law to reflect that reality.

This Senate vote is a step in the right direction, and I will continue pushing to repeal these outdated AUMFs and close the book on these forever wars.

Update on Government Shutdown

Image

Unfortunately, the federal government shutdown in Washington continues. I have now voted ten times to fund and reopen the government. Senate Democrats have continued to block the bill.

I joined Fox Business to discuss the impact of government shutdown, including its impact on American service members receiving their well-earned paychecks. To watch the full interview, click here or on the image above.

Gaza Peace Plan a Major Diplomatic Win

The successful negotiation of a Gaza peace plan is a major diplomatic accomplishment and a potential historic breakthrough. I want to congratulate President Trump, Secretary Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and the Trump Administration on their successful and transformational efforts. I am grateful for their commitment to pursuing peace in the Middle East, and we pray that this agreement endures.

It was wonderful to see the scenes of Israeli hostages returning home and the war that Hamas started on October 7, 2023 coming to an end.

Urging FDA to Reevaluate Abortion Drug Approval

I joined with nearly every Republican senator in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary urging HHS and FDA to review their decision to approve a generic version of mifepristone - currently the leading drug used to perform chemical abortions. Not only does this drug pose serious health risks to both unborn children and expecting mothers, but the decision also runs afoul of states with pro-life laws on the books.

National 4-H Week Resolution Passes the Senate

The Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution I helped author with over thirty Senate colleagues to designate October 5-11, 2025, as “National 4-H Week.”

As so many Hoosiers have experienced, 4-H programs teach real-world skills and develop the next generation of ag leaders. I’m glad to support this resolution establishing National 4-H Week and recognizing the life-changing opportunities 4-H provides young Hoosiers.
