Supporting Indiana's Drone Test Site Application

Image

Indiana is ready to play a critical role in reestablishing American drone dominance. This week, I led our entire Hoosier congressional delegation in urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to name Indiana as one of two new national drone test sites.

Indiana is uniquely situated to best assist the FAA in integrating drones into the national airspace system as well as advance the United States’ capacities for manufacturing and deploying drone technologies. Between our geographical location in the heart of the Midwest, the already numerous testing assets for a variety of missions, and state and federal representatives who are committed to supporting advancement of these critical technologies, our state is poised to provide the best outcomes for American leadership in drone manufacturing and deployment.

On Monday, I met with stakeholders from Harrison, Perry, and Spencer Counties to discuss how revitalizing American shipbuilding could impact the Ohio River region and our national security.

I also spoke with One Southern Indiana members in Jeffersonville during their Legislative Luncheon.

A Lesson from the Iron Lady

Image

While completing a college program two decades ago, I had the chance to visit with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and served as the student representative to Chairwoman Thatcher at the Institute of United States Studies in London from 2000 to 2001.

I wrote in the Washington Examiner about how one of her last speeches as Prime Minister has lessons for our political moment today.

It was great to visit with members of their team and community partners in Indy and learn more about their work to ensure all children have a permanent, loving home. Read more about their work here

250th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps

I recently spoke on the Senate floor about the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps, officially celebrated on November 10th.

For 250 years, the U.S. Marine Corps has not just trained warriors but made citizens. There are no fiercer defenders of our freedom. No greater examples of the virtues that make our Republic function.

Protecting Medical Residents from Coercive Abortion Training Practices

I joined with Senator James Lankford (R-Okla.) to introduce the Conscience Protections for Medical Residents Act. This legislation would ensure medical students and residents are not pressured or coerced into abortion training that violates their moral or religious beliefs. The bill would also establish clear federal protections so that residents are not forced to choose between their conscience and their careers.

Medical students who believe in the sanctity of life should not be pressured to participate in trainings that contradict their values. Our bill will protect the conscience rights of young medical professionals and ensure they can choose life as they advance their careers.
