Review of Vetting Process for Afghan Nationals

The horrific terror attack in Washington, D.C. last month that resulted in the shooting of two brave National Guard members demonstrates that it is past time for the United States to revisit the deficiencies of the Biden administration’s vetting process for Afghan nationals and remedy the resulting egregious security threats such a process created in the United States after the disastrous August 2021 withdrawal. The Biden administration’s assertion that all Afghan nationals who came to the U.S. in 2021 were subject to enhanced vetting has proven to be untrue.

I joined Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and other Committee members in sending a letter to National Security Advisor Marco Rubio urging a review of the Biden administration’s vetting process for Afghan nationals.

2025 Academy Nominations

Image

I recently announced my nominations for U.S. service academy appointments. Applications were received from 150 Hoosier students, and a select group of students was interviewed by our advisory board. Out of 80 offered interviews, 44 exemplary young men and women from across Indiana received a nomination to at least one service academy.

These young Hoosiers are highly qualified to serve our country, and I’m very proud of their hard work. I wish them the best of luck in their application process.

Helping American Workers and Families Build Emergency Savings

I recently introduced the Emergency Savings Enhancement Act, legislation to help American workers and families save for unexpected expenses without having to tap into their retirement accounts.

As a father of four, I understand the impact that unexpected expenses can have on a family budget. Our bill will provide workers and families with additional options to build savings for unexpected expenses, without tapping into retirement savings. If passed, our bill will support Indiana families and build financial security for working Hoosiers.

In 2022, I led the Emergency Savings Act, which authorized these types of accounts. This new bill would build on my 2022 law to inventive and ease adoption.
