Storm Recovery Resources for Hoosiers

Beginning on August 11, severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding caused significant damage across Indiana. Many Hoosier communities are still dealing with the aftermath of major flooding and others are still recovering from damaging storms. My heart goes out to every Hoosier family that’s been impacted by these weather events.

Our team created a resources page for Hoosiers recovering from the storms, including some steps families, businesses, farmers, and local communities can take now. We will continue to add updates as more information becomes available. Click here for more information.

Indiana Delegation Sends Letter to President Trump Supporting Major Disaster Declaration to Address August Storms

On Friday, the Indiana congressional delegation sent a letter to President Donald Trump in support of Governor Mike Braun’s August 20, 2026, request for a major disaster declaration following severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that began on August 11.

The delegation thanked President Trump for his swift approval of federal emergency assistance following the August storms and urged him to approve Governor Braun’s August 20 major disaster declaration request, while reiterating the delegation’s support for the governor’s pending request for the June storms.

Having seen the damage in several parts of our state, I strongly support this request and believe Indiana qualifies for this level of federal assistance.

Hoosier Communities Affected by Flooding, Storms

Image

Thank you to so many kind and generous Hoosiers who have helped with recovery efforts in different parts of our state over the past two weeks, including first responders, law enforcement, state and local officials, utility crews, linemen, and many others. The storm damage and flooding across Indiana is vast but the collective response has been phenomenal.

My team and I have connected with mayors, community leaders, and state officials to support the state’s efforts to help affected areas rebuild and amplify the need for federal assistance. My team and I were on the ground in Lake and Porter Counties surveying damage following storms that left hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers in northwest Indiana without power. Last week, our team was on the ground in Cambridge City, Muncie, New Castle, and Yorktown to survey damage from flooding and talk with local officials. Hundreds of homes in these communities have been affected.

I also received in-person briefings from Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen and Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam about the unique challenges in their communities. Noblesville faced historic flooding that surpassed records set in 1913, and Mayor Jensen and Noblesville leadership have done a great job protecting their community. Mayor Finkam, Carmel officials, first responders, and private sector partners did a remarkable job to protect infrastructure and create a temporary dam.

Grissom Air Reserve Base Meeting

I visited Grissom Air Reserve Base in north-central Indiana to meet with base leadership and discuss their priorities, ongoing operations, and the important role of the 434th Air Refueling Wing in our national defense. Grissom remains one of Indiana’s most unique defense assets.

Small Business Administrator Visits Indiana

It was an honor to host U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler in Indianapolis earlier this month for a series of events focused on Hoosier small businesses and manufacturers.

Click here for a short video on her visit. Click here for more on what we discussed during her visit.

Dubois County Ag Discussion

Thanks to Hoosiers in Dubois County for sharing their thoughts on ag issues with me during a shop talk hosted by Indiana Farm Bureau. We talked about the latest on the farm bill, renewable fuels, and trade policy.

Help for Hoosiers

Navigating federal agencies can be difficult. My staff and I are here to assist Hoosiers who are having trouble receiving benefits, have questions regarding a program or procedure, or have not heard back from these agencies in a timely manner.
