We Will Never Forget

Image

It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since September 11, 2001. Even with the passage of time, it is difficult to revisit the images and emotions of that day. The shock, grief, and anger felt across our nation. We will never forget.

We will never forget the lives lost on that day, and the way all Americans were unified following the attacks. Thank you to all who heroically responded that day and those who have responded ever since to protect our country.

Navy’s First Advanced Nuclear Microreactor Deployment Coming to Crane

Image

This week, the Department of War announced the installation of an advanced nuclear Micro Modular Reactor at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Crane in southern Indiana by September 2028.

This announcement by the Department of War is exciting news for our state. Critical next-generation energy solutions for our warfighters will be located in Indiana, at Crane. This first-of-its-kind mission will bring the highest levels of nuclear expertise to our state and is another example of the important role Hoosiers are playing in our national security.

The project is being executed jointly by the Army’s Janus Program; the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment; the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (OUSW(R&E)); and the State of Indiana.

Investment in Gary Works

Image

U.S. Steel has completed the reline of a blast furnace at its Gary steel mill. The company is investing more than $3.1 billion into Gary Works after its acquisition by Nippon Steel. The newly upgraded blast furnace will produce molten iron that is then turned into steel for appliances, cars, and other manufactured products.

This is the investment I hoped to see from the Nippon Steel deal. New investments at Gary Works will support northwest Indiana manufacturing, strengthen American steel, and reinforce a domestic supply chain that runs from Minnesota iron ore to steel made in Gary.
