Senator Scott Statement on Perez Nomination

Washington – U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) issued the following statement after voting “no” today regarding the confirmation of Thomas Perez as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. Scott’s full remarks submitted for the record are available here.

“After analyzing Mr. Perez’s current role at the Department of Justice, I do not believe he is a proper candidate to help our nation reach its economic potential. I have great concerns regarding some of the decisions he has made, the professionalism and ethics of those decisions, and his overall management abilities – which the DOJ Inspector General reported as leading to a ‘politically charged atmosphere’ and ‘dysfunctional management chain.’ What we need at the Department of Labor is simple – a secretary who will put politics aside and help get our economy back on track.”
