Senator Tim Scott Announces Judicial Nomination Committee

Charleston, SC – U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) today announced the formation of his Judicial Nomination Committee, which will aid him in selecting candidates for federal judgeships. Committee members have a wide variety of expertise within the legal and judicial fields, and will present Senator Scott with nomination recommendations when a federal judgeship is open in South Carolina.

“The Constitutional duty of the U.S. Senate in advising the appointment of federal judges is a key step in maintaining our nation’s judicial integrity,” Senator Scott said. “I believe that enlisting the help of those South Carolinians who are closest to the judicial system is vital to making sound, informed decisions.”

The Constitution provides that the President shall seek the advice and obtain the consent of the U.S. Senate in nominating and appointing federal judges. The Commission, consisting of nine members, will help provide expertise and direction to ensure that South Carolina is presenting the best possible candidates for consideration.
