MEDIA ADVISORY: Senator Tim Scott to Co-Chair Congressional Pilgrimage to Selma This Weekend

Charleston, SC - U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) will serve as Senate Co-Chair of the Congressional Pilgrimage to Selma, Alabama this weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the civil rights marches in Selma and Montgomery. More than 100 members of Congress will be attending, including co-chairs Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) and Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL). The march is led by Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a civil rights icon who was beaten crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma on Bloody Sunday, in conjuction with the non-partisan Faith and Politics Institute. Also attending will be President Obama and former President George W. Bush. The Congressional delegation will walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the footsteps of the civil rights pioneers of the 1960’s, as well as visit the Rosa Parks museum and lay wreaths at the State Capitol in Montgomery to honor those who lost their lives in the Civil Rights Movement.  Senator Scott will also be appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation Sunday morning to discuss the trip.
