Washington –
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC),
a
leading
advocate
for
school
choice
in
the
United
States
Senate, issued
the
following
statement
highlighting
the
importance
of
school
choice
during
National
Charter
Schools
Week this
week,
which
runs from May
3
through
May
9,
2015.
“As
we
celebrate
National
Charter
School
Week,
we
know
that
when
parents
and
communities
have
access
to
high-quality
educational
options,
our
children
can
maximize
their
limitless
potential.
I
am
proud
that
charter
schools
are
leading
the
way
in
educational
innovations
throughout
the
country.
From
creating
new
ideas
for
teaching
and
learning
to
preparing
students
from
diverse
backgrounds
for
college
and
career,
charter
schools
play
an
important
role
in
creating
a
stronger
educational
system. Our
country
is
well
served
when
educational
freedom,
whether
it’s
through
charter
schools,
magnet
programs,
virtual
learning,
private
schools
or
homeschooling
communities,
is
available
for
our
families.
This
week,
I
hope
people
will
take
a
moment
and
recognize
the
important
work
charter
school
teachers,
leaders
and
advocates
are
doing
to
educate
children
across
our
great
country.”
The
charter
school
community
continues
to
grow
in
South
Carolina.
Today,
sixty-six
charter
schools
are
educating
over
22,000
students
with
another
9,500
being
served
through
virtual
charter
schools.
