Washington
In
a
Senate
Finance
Committee
hearing
earlier
today,
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC)
questioned
Internal
Revenue
Service
(IRS)
Commissioner
John
Koskinen
and
Treasury
Inspector
General
for
Tax
Administration
J.
Russell
George
about
a
recent
data
breach
which
exposed
the
personal
information
of
more
than
100,000
taxpayers,
and
which
the
agency
believes
originated
in
Russia.
During
Senator
Scotts
questioning,
he
made
clear
that
this
seems
to
be
part
of
an
ongoing
pattern
of
negligence
at
the
IRS,
which
includes
unfairly
and
illegally
going
after
nonprofit
groups
based
on
their
political
affiliation,
the
lost
Lois
Lerner
emails,
and
thousands
of
courtesy
hang-ups
during
the
last
filing
season.
