School
Choice
is
the
Answer
Next
week
the
U.S.
Senate
will
continue
debate
on
the
Every
Child
Achieves
Act
(ECAA).
This
legislation
would
reauthorize
the
Elementary
and
Secondary
Education
Act
(ESEA),
which
is
the
principal
law
governing
the
federal
role
in
K-12
education.
As
a
strong
advocate
for
school
choice,
I
wholeheartedly
believe
every
child
has
God-given
talents
and
abilities,
and
we
must
ensure
they
have
access
to
the
learning
environment
that
best
suits
their
needs.
And
every
child,
regardless
of
the
zip
code
they
live
in,
should
have
access
to
a
quality
education.
Parents
and
students
are
best
served
when
they
have
educational
freedom,
whether
its
through
public
schools,
charter
schools,
magnet
programs,
virtual
learning,
private
schools,
or
homeschooling
communities.
As
someone
who
grew
up
poor
and
almost
failed
out
of
high
school,
I
know
firsthand
the
importance
of
empowering
parents
and
teachers
to
make
a
difference
in
students
lives.
Access
to
a
quality
education
can
change
the
lives
of
students
and
families
throughout
our
country
and
unlock
the
tools
for
them
to
reach
their
full
God-given
potential.
Waiting
is
no
longer
an
option
because
every
day
we
wait,
another
child
stuck
in
a
failing
school
loses
access
to
a
brighter
future.
I
hope
my
colleagues
will
work
with
me
to
provide
every
child
with
a
good
education
and
not
get
caught
up
in
politics.
The
Confederate
Battle
Flag
The
Confederate
battle
flag
did
not
cause
the
hateful,
racist
actions
that
left
nine
families
and
our
entire
state
grieving,
and
it
remains
part
of
our
state's
rich
and
provocative
history.
But
for
so
many,
the
flag
signifies
pain
and
division
that
has
no
home
here,
and
that
does
not
represent
the
present
or
the
future
of
our
great
state.
I
do
not
believe
that
the
vast
majority
of
those
who
support
the
flag
have
hate
in
their
hearts,
but
it
is
clear
that
this
is
the
right
step
forward
for
our
state.
During
a
time
of
immeasurable
pain,
the
families
of
the
Emanuel
9
showed
us
the
future
of
South
Carolina:
unity,
compassion,
righteousness,
and
love.
And
while
we
cannot
bring
their
loved
ones
back,
they
have
given
us
those
gifts
that
will
last
forever.
Thanks
again
for
subscribing!
Sincerely,
Tim
