Washington
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC)
released
the
following
statement
after
voting
against
the
Every
Child
Achieves
Act
(ECAA).
I
want
to
thank
Chairman
Lamar
Alexander
for
the
tremendous
effort
he
put
into
crafting
this
legislation,
along
with
Ranking
Member
Patty
Murray.
The
Every
Child
Achieves
Act
takes
some
important
steps
towards
improving
our
nations
K-12
education
system
by
returning
decision
making
to
the
states
and
simplifying
some
testing
measures.
Unfortunately,
I
believe
the
bill
did
not
go
far
enough
in
these
aspects,
and
I
simply
could
not
support
its
passage.
Too
many
of
our
nations
children
today
do
not
have
access
to
a
quality
education,
and
I
believe
that,
among
other
factors,
school
choice
is
a
critical
step
towards
providing
that
opportunity.
Education
is
a
building
block
of
my
Opportunity
Agenda,
and
I
will
continue
working
on
the
Senate
Education
Committee
to
give
parents
more
options
in
determining
the
best
educational
path
for
their
children.
When
parents
have
a
choice,
kids
have
a
better
chance.
This
past
Tuesday,
Senator
Scotts
school
choice
amendment
to
the
ECAA
was
defeated
45-51.
The
Senator
gave
a
passionate
speech
advocating
for
school
choice
on
the
floor
of
the
Senate,
which
