Dear
Friends,
Today
the
Senate
passed
the
National
Defense
Authorization
(NDAA)
Act
by
a
vote
of
91-3.
With
this
vote,
Congress
sent
yet
another
strong
message
to
the
White
House
that
it
is
time
to
stop
playing
politics
over
Guantanamo
Bay.
The
NDAA
has
language
specifically
barring
the
transfer
of
Guantanamo
detainees
to
domestic
soil.
The
vote
came
after
the
Obama
Administration
announced
over
the
weekend
that
their
plan
to
close
Guantanamo
would
be
released
this
week.
The
President
has
threatened
to
close
the
Guantanamo
detention
facilities
by
Executive
Order.
That
threat,
my
friends,
is
overcooking
my
grits.
Last
week
I
joined
my
colleagues
Senators
Pat
Roberts
(R-KS)
and
Cory
Gardner
(R-CO)
for
a
press
conference
denouncing
the
White
House’s
refusal
to
rule
out
executive
action
to
close
Guantanamo
Bay
and
transfer
prisoners
to
the
United
States.
The
Administration
has
surveyed
sites
in
South
Carolina,
Kansas,
and
Colorado
as
potential
locations
to
house
dangerous
terrorists.
You

conference

I
also
joined
Greta
to
discuss
the
President’s
illegal
plan
to
transfer
these
dangerous
terrorists
to
US
soil;
he
is
breaking
the
law
and
ignoring
the
will
of
the
American
people
and
Congress
in
the
process.

I
just
returned
from
Guantanamo
Bay
a
few
weeks
ago,
and
frankly
we
have
created
the
best
location
for
these
enemy
combatants
an
isolated
location
surrounded
by
water,
mountains,
and
deserts.
To
consider
a
domestic
location,
is
in
my
opinion,
the
worst
decision
for
America’s
national
security.
The
President’s
plan
to
close
Gitmo
is
strictly
to
fulfill
a
campaign
promise,
and
I
will
continue
to
work
with
my
colleagues
to
stop
this
short-sighted
strategy
from
ever
coming
into
effect.
I
also
wrote
an
op-ed
in
National
Review
about
my
trip
to
Guantanamo
with
detailed
arguments
against
closing
the
facilities.
You

here.
For
updates
on
my
fight
to
stop
the
President’s
plan,
and
other
issues,

God
bless,
