Voorhees’
Keeper
of
the
Flame
Award
Last
week,
I
had
the
honor
of
receiving
the
Keeper
of
the
Flame
award
from
Voorhees
College
at
their
Fifth
Annual
Presidential
Scholars
Gala.
The
award
is
presented
to
individuals
who
have
made
significant
contributions
to
their
community
and
demonstrated
excellence
in
their
profession.
I
count
myself
lucky
to
be
thought
so
highly
of
by
Voorhees
College’s
Board
of
Trustees,
president,
faculty
and
staff.
That
being
said,
it
was
a
pleasure
to
be
in
the
company
of
the
Presidential
Scholars.
All
of
the
students
at
the
Gala
were
very
impressive
and
it
was
evident
that
they
had
bright
futures
ahead
of
them.
It
is
always
encouraging
to
see
young
people
who
are
striving
to
get
ahead
in
life
and
persevere
despite
their
own
personal
struggles.
Also,
I
would
like
to
thank
Dr.
Cleveland
Sellers
for
his
leadership
at
Voorhees
College
and
I
would
like
to
congratulate
him
on
his
upcoming
retirement.
He
is
a
wonderful
president
and
will
be
sorely
missed
by
both
students
and
staff.

Regulation
Overload
For
seven
years
now,
the
Obama
Administration
has
overregulated
the
American
people,
and
done
so
while
ignoring
the
real
world
impacts
these
countless
new
regulations
and
mountains
of
red
tape
have
on families
across
the
country. That's
why
I
support
the
REINS
Act and
the
RED
Tape
Act both
of
which
would
help
stop
burdensome
and
unnecessary
regulations.
Last
week
the
administration
finalized
another
new
rule
the
Department
of
Labor’s
new fiduciary
rule,
which
hurts
families
that
are
trying
to
plan
for
retirement. Today,
Americans
hold
an
estimated
$3
trillion
in
individual
retirement
accounts. The
new
fiduciary
rule
significantly
constricts
the
availability
of
financial
advice
related
to
pension
and
retirement
plans,
and
will
be
particularly
harmful
to
low-
and
moderate-income
workers
seeking
advice
for
their
retirement
planning.
I
will
continue
to
fight
against
burdensome
and
unnecessary
regulations
like
this
one,
and
to
support
both
the
REINS
and
RED
Tape
Acts.
We
cannot
afford
to
have
this
go
on
any
longer.
Immigration
Amicus
Brief
I
joined
42
other
Senate
Republicans
in
filing
an amicus
brief in
the
United
States
Supreme
Court
in
support
of
a
challenge
to
the
Obama
Administration’s
November
2014
executive
actions
on
immigration.
The
brief
demonstrates
that
the
Administration’s
actions
not
only
violate
current
law
but
are
an
extraordinary
and
unprecedented
power
grab
by
the
President.
Laws
are
put
in
place
for
a
reason,
and
I
will
work
to
ensure
our
immigration
laws
are
enforced.
Department
of
Energy’s
Plan
to
Scrap
MOX
Program
is
Unacceptable
When
South
Carolina
agreed
to
receive
nuclear
waste
at
the
Savannah
River
Site,
we
did
so
with
the
understanding
it
would
not
remain
here
forever.
Now,
the
Obama
Administration
is
attempting
to
shutter
the
MOX
program
outside
Aiken,
which
puts
both
our
nation
in
danger
of
violating
an
international
nuclear
non-proliferation
agreement,
and
our
state
in
danger
of
not
having
a
way
to
remove
the
nuclear
waste
we
have
already
accepted.
President
Obama
and
the
DOE
have
shown
poor
judgement
and
a
lack
of
foresight.
This
proposal
has
even
allowed
Russian
President
Vladimir
Putin
to
harshly
criticize
President
Obama’s
attempt
to
deviate
from
the
terms
of
an
international
agreement
to
dispose
of
nuclear
material,
stating
that, “[The
United
States]
announced
that
they
plan
to
dispose
of
their
accumulated
highly
enriched
nuclear
fuel
by
using
a
method
other
than
what
we
agreed
on.”
Putin
is
a
wild
card,
and
giving
him
a
reason
to
turn
his
back
on
a nonproliferation agreement
is
simply
a
terrible
idea.
I
believe
that
this
Administration’s
recent
words
and
actions
on
MOX
have
unnecessarily
harmed
our
nation’s
long-time
leadership
role
when
it
comes
to
nuclear
nonproliferation,
and
I
will
continue
working
to
ensure
both
that
we
meet
the
terms
of
our
international
agreements,
and
that
South
Carolina
does
not
become
a
long-term
dumping
ground
for
nuclear
waste.
Sincerely,

Tim |
