Tax
Reform
Today
is
Tax
Day,
so
I
wanted
to
share
a
few
thoughts
on
tax
reform.
It’s
no
secret
that
the
federal
government’s
Achilles
heel
is
its
inability
to
control
its
spending
habits.
In
order
to
fund
this
bad
habit,
the
federal
government
has
put
the
burden
on
the
backs
of
our
taxpayers.
Currently,
our
tax
code
is
much
more
complicated
than
it
should
be,
and
creates
an
atmosphere
that
overwhelms
middle
and
lower
income
families.
As
a
former
small
business
owner,
and
someone
who
was
not
only
interested
in
doing
well
for
myself,
but
also
in
creating
jobs
for
people
in
my
community
and
spreading
opportunities
to
other
folks,
I
will
tell
you
our
overly
complicated
tax
code
does
very
little
to
encourage
growth.
I
shared
a
longer
conversation
on
tax
reform
on
my
Facebook
page,

Finance
Hearing
on
Cyber
Security
at
the
IRS
Last
week
at
the
Finance
Committee
Hearing,
my
colleagues
and
I
had
the
opportunity
to
hear
from
IRS
Commissioner
John
Koskinen
about
cyber
security,
or
the
lack
thereof,
at
the
IRS.
Unfortunately,
basically
what
I
heard
from
Commissioner
Koskinen
was
"blah.blah.blah."
It
is
no
secret
that
the
IRS
has
major
issues;
however,
the
lack
of
progress
made
towards
fixing
those
issues
has
put
too
many
taxpayers
at
risk.
I
know
firsthand
about
identity
theft
and
that
it
can
be
a
terrifying
experience.
It
is
especially
terrifying
when
it
becomes
apparent
that
a
government
agency
is
the
one
who
put
you
at
risk,
despite
the
fact
that
they
had
been
warned
over
and
over
again
that
their
cyber
security
systems
had
to
be
updated.
Protecting
all
taxpayers
is
my
top
concern.
I
will
continue
to
hold
the
IRS'
feet
to
the
fire,
and
push
to
ensure
they
are
handling
your
information
with
the
greatest
of
care.
Anything
less
is
absolutely
unacceptable.
Heritage
Classic
Yesterday,
I
attended
the
Heritage
Classic
in
Hilton
Head.
I
enjoyed
seeing
Bluffton
Mayor
Lisa
Sulka
and
everyone
else
in
Beaufort
County.
Also,
my
favorite
part
of
coming
to
the
classic
every
year
is
an
excuse
to
break
out
the
plaid
hat!

Thanks
again
for
subscribing!
Sincerely,
Tim
