End the Partisan IRS Culture (EPIC) Act

Last week, I discussed the EPIC ACT as part of a broader debate on the Taxpayer Protection Act, which seeks to create what is more commonly referred to as a taxpayers’ bill of rights. We all know that the IRS’ problems are compounding one on top of the other and are causing taxpayers unnecessary stress. For instance, it is well known that the IRS targeted 300 individuals or organizations targeted because their views were in opposition to the current administration.

It is my hope that by passing this act, all union activities, which by their nature are partisan, will be removed from the IRS’ agenda. Currently, the IRS devotes significant amounts of time on union work rather than completing work that the American people expect them to do and this is all being paid for by the taxpayers. The IRS should be an unbiased entity and one of the ways to make it that way is to eliminate the requirement for unionization.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act (S. 2658)

I am pleased the Senate came together last week to pass the FAA Reauthorization Act, which includes a number of passenger-friendly provisions that will make flying easier for all travelers. The bill ensures that airlines are more transparent about everything from fees to delays, while it also protects air services in rural areas and improves access for Americans with disabilities. These provisions are important for passengers and airports in communities like Greenville-Spartanburg, Columbia, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and all around the state, which serve millions of passengers each year.

Additionally, protecting Americans as they fly both domestically and internationally is incredibly important, especially in the face of new attacks by terrorist groups around the world. These terror groups' desire to disrupt our security and our lives means we must work even harder to implement policy that will protect American families. Tuesday’s vote meets these growing concerns with strong new security measures that directly address potential threats to airline passengers. For more information, you can click here.

Upstate Veterans Honor Flight

I also had the opportunity to greet the Veterans Honor Flight from the Upstate that arrived in Washington, DC last week. Those on board the flight included World War Two, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans!

It was truly an honor to be in the presence of our nation’s heroes and I count myself fortunate to live in a country where we have devoted men and women who are willing to lay down their lives to defend our freedoms. God bless all those who have served and are currently serving in the military.

Sincerely,
