President Obama's Final Overtime Rule
As someone who has been a small business owner, I understand firsthand the negative impact of basing a law on theory rather than practical knowledge. The new overtime rule radically changes who is eligible for overtime pay by more than doubling the salary threshold for whom is eligible, which promises to have a host of unintended consequences for the very workers they are trying to help.

The Obama Administration’s new overtime rule will have swift and damaging impacts on hard working American families, as well as small businesses, non-profits and colleges and universities. This president and his administration continue to disregard the full economic realities of their policies, and their lack of foresight is clearly evident in the final overtime rule. Our nation’s economy, which is still struggling to recover, simply cannot afford to have the Obama administration continue to implement more damaging rules and regulations. Bureaucrats in Washington cannot create jobs, but they certainly can destroy them.

In an effort to stop this disaster, I authored the Protecting Workplace Advancement and Opportunity Act which ensures that the Department of Labor pursues a balanced and responsible approach to updating federal overtime rules.

Serving Those Who Served Our Country
Last week, I voted for our veterans by supporting the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, which takes positive steps forward to ensure the services and care that our veterans earned through their service to our nation are delivered to them. Our nation's active military, veterans and their families all around the world and in South Carolina must be able to know that the federal government will keep its promises. With nearly 400,000 veterans in South Carolina, we have a strong relationship with our Armed Forces and those who have served our nation.

In addition to funding services, this bill has a number of important reforms and updates, including increases for and oversight of the VA to address the VA claims backlog, continuing to modernize the VA electronic health record and adding staff to root out fraud, waste and abuse. I will continue working to ensure that our nation's veterans are given what they have earned and deserved.

National BBQ Month
I also had the opportunity to celebrate National BBQ Month at Home Team BBQ in Charleston! I can honestly say that there is nothing like getting some good hometown BBQ after a long day of work. It really hits the spot.

I took a video before I chowed down, which you can view here.

Thanks again for subscribing!

Sincerely,

Tim
