Senator Scott: Supreme Court Stops Obama’s Executive Overreach on Immigration

Washington
– U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) issued the statement below following today’s decision on the case of United States v. Texas, No. 15-674 by the U.S. Supreme Court, which blocks President Obama’s effort to unilaterally change our nation’s immigration laws.

“President Obama’s efforts to ignore Congress on a variety of issues, from immigration to Guantanamo Bay, are absolutely unacceptable. Today the Supreme Court reinforced that the President cannot simply decide on his own to grant amnesty to 5 million people, and I sincerely hope the White House will now put their focus where it should be regarding immigration – securing our borders and fixing our legal immigration system. America is both a compassionate nation and a nation of laws, and I hope over time we are able to find smart, targeted solutions to securing our border, enforcing existing U.S. law, and creating an efficient system for future immigrants."
