Charleston,
SC
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC)
released
the
statement
below
regarding
today’s
report
that
the
Obama
Administration
secretly
sent
Iran
$400
million.
"This
was
no
coincidence,
the
Obama
administration
knowingly
agreed
to
pay
Iran
$1.7
billion
dollars
during
the
same
month
four
Americans
were
released
from
Tehran
back
in
January.
While
we
are
certainly
thankful
to
welcome
wrongly
imprisoned
Americans
home,
that
agreement
also
occurred
right
after
the
President’s
terrible
Iran
Deal
was
implemented.
Then
today,
it
was
made
public
that
a
plane
secretly
airlifted
400
million
of
those
dollars
to
the
Iranian
government,
a
country
that
has
long
since
been
regarded
as
a
state
sponsor
of
terror
and
considered
one
of
the
most
dangerous
nations
in
the
world.
It
is
truly
unfathomable
our
current
administration
would
allow
this
to
occur.
The
United
States
should
not
negotiate
with
terrorists.
It
not
only
goes
against
our
principles
and
core
values,
but
it
also
makes
Americans
both
here
and
abroad
more
vulnerable
to
being
captured
and
attacked.
The
lack
of
transparency
in
this
deal
was
unacceptable.
This
is
taxpayer
money,
and
people
across
the
country
are
entitled
to
know
every
detail
of
this
transaction.
They
are
owed
answers.”
