Recovering
and
Rebuilding
Shortly
after
Hurricane
Matthew
hit,
I
traveled
through
Charleston,
Horry
and
Beaufort
Counties
to
assess
the
damage.
On
Friday,
I
spent
the
day
surveying
flooding
in
the
town
of
Nichols
and
Marion
County.
In
some
areas,
flood
waters
were
still
high
enough
that
we
had
to
travel
in
an
armored
vehicle
to
reach
them.
I
urge
everyone
to
not
take
any
unnecessary
chances
and
to
follow
the
directions
of
the
local
authorities.
We
will
recover
and
rebuild
our
homes,
our
businesses
and
our
communities.
To
help
in
this
endeavor,
I
joined
the
entire
SC
delegation
in
asking
for
FEMA
to
expedite
Individual
Assistance
for
the
13
counties
requested
by
Governor
Haley.
Senate
Opportunity
Coalition
Growing
up
in
poverty,
I
know
what
it’s
like
to
lose
hope.
That
is
why
I
am
excited
about
the
launch
of
the
Senate
Opportunity
Coalition.
My
colleagues
and
I
have
gone
out
to
communities
in
our
states
to
really
get
a
sense
of
what
challenges
so
many
Americans
living
in
low-income
communities,
living
paycheck
to
paycheck,
are
facing
today.
We
believe
that
the
best
step
towards
restoring
hope
and
opportunity
in
these
communities
is
to
first
take
a
moment
to
listen
and
understand.
The
solution
is
having
people
who
love
people
go
to
where
they
are
and
have
a
conversation.
You
can
watch
a
clip
from
our
meeting
here.
On
the
Road
Again!
This
past
week,
I
had
a
great
time
visiting
folks
in
the
Upstate.
I
spoke
with
students
at
Anderson
University
and
Tri-County
Technical
College
in
Pendleton,
had
a
little
fun
with
a
few
kids
at
McKissick
Elementary
in
Easley,
chatted
with
the
good
people
of
Oconee
County
at
the
Seneca
Family
Restaurant,
visited
with
the
Project
SEARCH
interns
at
Spartanburg
Medical
Center,
and
had
fun
checking
out
some
3-D
printers
at
Greenville
Technical
College
with
my
good
friend
Trey
Gowdy!
Without
a
doubt,
spending
time
with
the
people
of
South
Carolina
is
the
best
part
of
my
job.
Sincerely,

Tim
