Dear Friends,

Thank you for subscribing to my weekly e-newsletter, and please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Cabinet Votes

Last week, I voted in favor of the confirmation of Wilbur Ross to lead the Department of Commerce, Rep. Ryan Zinke to serve as Secretary of the Interior,  Dr. Ben Carson to serve as the next secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and former Texas Governor Rick Perry to serve as Secretary of the Department of Energy.

Their own personal achievements prove that they have what it takes to face tough decisions and make the right choices in the face of adversity. I am confident in their abilities and look forward to working with each of them as we seek to steer America back on the right course.

No Tolerance for Anti-Semitism

The incidents of anti-Semitism across the United States are abhorrent, disrespectful, and saddening. We must stand together against these heinous words and actions, and ensure that those committing these crimes are brought to justice. Last year I introduced legislation to help prevent anti-Semitism, and I look forward to reintroducing my bill this year. We are all brothers and sisters, and must be united against those who seek to divide us through hate and threats of violence.

HBCU Fly-In

Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) and I invited the Presidents and Chancellors of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to participate in a daylong conference at the Library of Congress. The event and discussion panels focused on opportunity, strengthening bilateral relationships, and celebrating the importance of our country’s HBCUs.

You can check out one of the panel discussions with Speaker Paul Ryan, Rep. Walker and myself here.

Trailblazer Award
I was honored to receive the South Carolina State University Foundation's Trailblazer Award this past weekend. SCSU and all HBCUs continue to be a vital part of our future as they provide a topnotch education to our country’s youth.

Their ability to provide opportunities to students that may not otherwise have them is commendable. I look forward to continuing to play an instrumental part in their success.

Sincerely,

Tim
