Sen. Scott Votes In Support of U.S. Trade Representative

Washington, D.C. – Today, Sen. Scott voted in support of Mr. Robert Lighthizer to serve as our next U.S. Trade Representative. Below is his statement regarding Lighthizer’s nomination. The Senate approved Lighthizer's confirmation 82-14:

“Our trade policies should focus on supporting the American worker. They are the backbone of our country and deserve an administration that is willing to stand up and fight to keep jobs from being shipped abroad. The Port of Charleston, and the nearly 10 percent of South Carolina jobs it provides, relies heavily on a strong trade policy that makes our goods competitive in overseas markets.  I believe Mr. Lighthizer is the right choice to serve as our top trade representative, and I look forward to seeing how he tackles our out-of-control trade deficit and helps to refine our bilateral international agreements.”
