Tax Reform

Last Wednesday, following the Senate Finance Committee’s meeting with President Trump, I spoke on the Senate Floor about the Republican Tax Reform plan. Simply put, Tax Reform is about two pillars: how do we increase the take home pay of low and middle-class Americans and how do we make sure the jobs of the future are created here in our great nation! You can watch my full speech here.

2018 Budget Resolution Vote

Last week, the Senate voted to approve the FY 2018 budget resolution, which provides a pathway to tax reform that will help more American families keep more of their paycheck. The good news is we can now make that happen. So, as we move forward on the debate surrounding tax reform, let’s consider the single mom, like mine, who wants to provide a better life for her family, or the grandparents who want to save for retirement, or the young entrepreneur who hopes to open a new business. These are the people who will benefit greatly from tax reform, and that is where our focus should be and remain. You can watch some highlights from last week’s progress here.

Equifax

In the Senate Banking Committee last Tuesday, I discussed the fact that more than half of the adults in our state had their personal information stolen during the Equifax breach. This is unacceptable, and I will hold Equifax accountable for its negligence.

I also wrote a letter with Senator Tester to the IRS calling for it to terminate a contract with Equifax that would have sent the company $7.2 million of taxpayer money. The contract is now suspended. You can watch my Banking Committee speech here and read our letter to the IRS here.

Sincerely,

Tim
