Investing in Opportunity Act

My bipartisan Investing in Opportunity Act was included in the recently passed tax reform bill as a key provision that will help economically distressed communities. It incentivizes investment in economically distressed areas by allowing trillions of dollars in private capital to be used to encourage small businesses, support entrepreneurs, and to revitalize zip codes most in need of a resurgence.

I joined Fox Business yesterday, where I discussed the IIOA, and how it will allow private sector dollars to come into distressed communities (where 50 million Americans live) and provide long-term opportunities to help everyday people build their way to a brighter future. Here’s what others, including President Trump & the New York Times, are saying about the IIOA.

Black History Month

As we welcome the month of February, we recognize and celebrate Black History Month. Since we were first brought to these shores, African-Americans have played a vital role in the history of our nation. There have been incredibly hard times, and there have been giant steps forward. Black History Month is no longer simply about where we have been, but also to remind ourselves of where we can go in the future.

We stand on the shoulders of giants, not just Dr. King or Rosa Parks, but the Friendship Nine, Jo Ann Robinson, and Mary Moultrie as well. In the darkest of times, they taught us all what it truly means to be an American. As we celebrate Black History Month this year, I look to those heroes of yesterday to provide us a roadmap for tomorrow. We must continue towards progress, a better understanding of our neighbors, and the future of which we have all dreamed.

Trey Gowdy Retirement

Last week, Congressman Trey Gowdy announced he will not seek re-election in 2018. I want to thank Trey not just for his service to the Upstate, or his love for South Carolina, or his commitment to justice and the truth, but for being the honest, good hearted man I know he is and will continue to be. He has always put the people of Greenville-Spartanburg first, despite his other Congressional responsibilities grabbing so many national headlines.

I am so happy for the Gowdy family, as I know they will be thrilled to have Trey back home more often, and for Trey because of everything he has accomplished in Congress. I know for him this is simply the end of one chapter in a long book, and I am forever grateful for the friendship we have forged over the past eight years.

Sincerely,

Tim
