Washington,
D.C.
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC)
joined
the
Senate
Committee
on
Small
Business
and
Entrepreneurship
today
to
honor
Callie’s
Biscuits,
a
Charleston-based
grab
and
go
restaurant,
to
be
highlighted
as
Sunday's
Small
Business
of
the
Day
in
recognition
of
National
Small
Business
Week.
This
business,
which
was
nominated
by
Scott,
will
be
recognized
in
the
Congressional
Record.
Callie’s
Biscuits,
founded
in
2005
by
Carrie
Morey,
has
received
national
recognition
for
their
menu
items
and
products.
Morey
started
the
company
as
a
way
to
replicate
some
of
her
mother’s
recipes
and
today
the
company
has
since
expanded
to
three
operating
locations,
including
Charleston’s
Upper
King
District
and
the
Charleston
City
Market.
“I
had
a
chance
to
meet
Carrie
in
person
and
there
is
no
question
she
exudes
the
exact
traits
required
of
someone
determined
to
run
a
prosperous
business,”
said
Scott.
“Congratulations
to
her
and
her
team
for
their
continued
success
and
for
the
positive
impact
they
are
making
in
the
Lowcountry
and
beyond.”
When
Morey
first
started
the
company,
she
only
used
part-time
help.
She
now
employees
65
members
who
help
her
carry
out
her
business’s
day-to-day
operations.
“When
I
started
Callie's
Biscuits
in
2005,
my
goal
was
twofold:
I
wanted
the
opportunity
to
build
a
business
around
my
passion
-
Southern
food
-
but
I
also
wanted
to
create
a
job
opportunity
for
myself
and
others
that
allowed
the
flexibility
to
still
be
very
present
as
a
mother
and
a
primary
caregiver,”
said
Morey.
“Being
a
small
business
owner
has
allowed
me
the
freedom
to
raise
my
three
girls,
while
also
setting
an
example
for
them
by
balancing
a
challenging
and
rewarding
career.”
"Congratulations
to
Callie's
Biscuits
for
receiving
this
recognition," said
Senator
Jim
Risch,
chairman
of
the
Senate
Committee
on
Small
Business
and
Entrepreneurship.
"Our
nation
relies
on
its
30
million
small
business
owners
to
keep
our
economy
moving
forward,
and
I'm
glad
we
can
highlight
their
individual
and
collective
achievements
this
week."
For
over
50
years,
the
President
of
the
United
States
has
issued
a
proclamation
announcing
National
Small
Business
Week,
which
recognizes
the
critical
contributions
of
America’s
entrepreneurs
and
small
business
owners.
As
part
of
National
Small
Business
Week,
the
U.S.
Senate
Committee
on
Small
Business
and
Entrepreneurship
takes
the
opportunity
to
highlight
the
impact
of
outstanding
entrepreneurs,
small
business
owners,
and
others
from
all
50
states
and
U.S.
territories.
As
chairman,
Risch
honors
America’s
small
businesses
and
entrepreneurs
in
the

regularly.
