Washington,
D.C.
U.S.
Senator
Tim
Scott
(R-SC)
released
the
following
statement
regarding
the
Supreme
Court’s
decision
in
Janus
vs.
AFSCME,
which
ruled
in
a
5-4
decision
that
obligating
non-members
to
pay
union
fees
violates
the
First
Amendment:
“The
beauty
of
our
country lies
in
our
individual
freedoms
and
Constitutional
rights
that
were
established
to
make
sure
we
would
remain
the
freest
country
in
the
world.
Today’s
SCOTUS
decision
marks
a
huge
win
for
hardworking
employees
nationwide
and
restores
their
First
Amendment
rights
to
what
they
were
intended
to
protect.
No
one
should
be
forced
to
pay
money
out
of
their
own
pocket
to
support
an
organization
that
is
not
representing
their
perspectives
and
needs.
Here’s
the
bottom
line,
if
you
need
a
mandatory
membership
fee
to
sustain
your
organization,
then
perhaps
you
should
reconfigure
your
business
plan.”
