Judge Kavanaugh Meeting
Last Wednesday, I sat down with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Approving a Supreme Court nominee is one of the most vital responsibilities of the United States Senate. Ensuring the confirmation of a fair and balanced jurist who is committed to the rule of law is of the utmost importance.

After reviewing his record over the past few weeks, and in meeting with Judge Brett Kavanaugh last week, I am certain that he is devoted to these principles and will serve as a fantastic addition to the Supreme Court. He is truly what a 21st century conservative looks like, and I look forward to voting for him this fall.

Opportunity Zones
I joined Kevin Cirilli on Bloomberg last Friday to discuss how my Opportunity Zones will bring hope to Americans living in distressed communities. Now that every governor across the country has submitted their state’s proposed zones, I look forward to the opportunities we will see created in so many communities in each state. This is not a partisan piece of legislation- this is an American piece of legislation focusing on those folks who need it the most. You can watch the full interview here.

The Perkins CTE Act
On Thursday, I was proud to join my colleagues in the unanimous passing of the reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. This legislation will provide much-needed flexibility and support to workforce development programs across the country, including apprenticeships. Apprentices earn $300k more in lifetime earnings than non-apprentice peers. I’m looking forward to the President signing Perkins CTE into law. You can watch my full remarks from the HELP hearing here.

Around the State
This week, I recognized & sent my congratulations to the 2018 Angels in Adoption award recipient, Mr. Dan Walters of Greenwood, SC. You can read my remarks on Mr. Walters in the congressional record here.

Mr. Walters has truly opened up his heart and home through his exceptional service for many children in the foster care system. I even had the pleasure of working with one of those children through my internship program, and that young man credits Mr. Walters for giving him a “second chance at life”. Mr. Walters is an outstanding example of a foster parent, and I applaud him on his continued commitment and compassion towards helping foster care children.

Sincerely,

Tim
