Dear Friend,
Welcome to my military and veterans affairs newsletter! America would not be the country it is without the brave service members and veterans who fight for our freedom at home and abroad. I am dedicated to ensuring our heroes have our continued support.
I have similar newsletters on education, health care, and a variety of other issues. You can sign up for them here.
Also, please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for daily updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina.
Protecting America’s National Security Interests
Under the previous administration, we provided the resources to rebuild the military and promote peace in the Middle East with the establishment of the Abraham Accords. And now, President Biden has made several nominations to top positions in national security, defense, and foreign relations within his administration, which may threaten to undo the progress we made. I have and will continue to hold these leaders accountable and ensure we continue the great tradition of American strength and leadership on the world stage. Our military and national security interests deserve the best leadership and resources. I am committed to ensuring that President Biden’s cabinet nominees share that same sentiment.
Top Treatment for Our Warriors
After putting their lives on the line in defense of freedom and democracy, veterans deserve accessible, affordable, and quality health care. This is why I supported the VA Mission Act and the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act. The VA Mission Act is designed to fix current inefficiencies within the VA health care program. This law cuts wait times, streamlines services, provides better care, and expands a much-needed caregiver program. The Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act improves outreach to veterans and their mental health care options.
President Trump signed both pieces of legislation into law. Under his leadership, we made great strides towards improving the level of health care our veterans receive. Our military members and veterans deserve leadership that treats them as a priority and values their service to this country. This Congress, I will continue to fight for our service members and veterans; I am focused on eliminating veteran homelessness, improving health care for our service members and veterans, and enhancing our military-to-civilian transitions.
