Visiting Clarendon County
In the midst of another work week in Washington, I had the honor of virtually visiting some folks back home in South Carolina. On Tuesday, I made another stop on my state-wide county tour—this time in Clarendon County. My visit centered on the Holy Donut Shoppe, a small business that uses its proceeds to support a domestic violence shelter, and Provalus, an IT services company that partners with the donut shop and invests in local workforce development.

I often say the American Dream means achieving your goals and being able to give back to your community—tenfold. That’s certainly happening in Clarendon County! These businesses strive for more than just a profit; they also seek to change their world for the better. Know that I will continue working to empower every South Carolinian to achieve their dreams and give back to the communities we know and love.
A Trip to the Upstate
Over the weekend, I made a road trip from Charleston to the Upstate, where I paid a visit to a group that holds a special place in my heart, Palmetto Boys State. As a Boys State alumnus myself, I’m always honored to speak to hundreds of young men each year who go through this program. I hope my story—the story of a poor kid who nearly flunked high school going on to become a U.S. senator—reminds them to never give up on their dreams. I look forward to seeing all the great things these young leaders will accomplish!
