Dear Friend,

Democrats’ Reckless Week
This week, in the midst of record inflation, Senate Democrats pushed through a $3.5 trillion spending bill that will leave our nation deeper in debt, less free, and more divided. Sadly, American families will be forced to bear the cost of this reckless spending at the pump and the grocery store.
Republicans made every effort to push back on the destructive policies inside this bill and instead promote commonsense ideas. I filed an amendment to ensure all schools would be open for in-person learning throughout the next school year. Not a single Democrat voted to support it.

The sad reality is that locking kids out of the classroom—even when the science said it was safe—resulted in unprecedented learning loss and mental health issues. I’ll continue advocating for a safe return to the classroom that gets kids back on track.
Fighting for our Youth
Another way I am fighting for our nation’s youth is by supporting school choice. Here’s what we know: when a parent has a choice, their kid has a better chance. And for many families, charter schools provide a fantastic option. Yesterday, I released a video debunking common myths about these high-performing schools and explaining why they are so beneficial. Check it out below!

A Lifeline for Small Businesses
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) kept countless businesses afloat as we grappled with economic shutdowns during the height of the pandemic. But the PPP lifeline was unavailable to many rural and minority business owners who lacked access to a bank. Thankfully, many fintech companies filled in the gap by providing loans to those businesses.
This week, I introduced a bill that would widen Small Business Administration’s (SBA) flagship 7(a) small business loan program to include fintech lenders, which will in turn give rural and minority businesses across South Carolina the opportunities they deserve.
Sincerely,
