Preventable Tragedies in Afghanistan
Today we continue to grieve the loss of several U.S. servicemembers and dozens of Afghan civilians killed in heinous terrorist attacks in Kabul. The sacrifice of our military will never be forgotten. You can read my statement on this devastating, preventable tragedy here.
Beyond the atrocities of this week, President Biden’s failure in Afghanistan will have long-term consequences—not only for the Middle East, but also for our own nation. As images and videos continue to unfold of the needless atrocities in Kabul, the American people are searching for answers that the Biden administration has yet to address.
Earlier this week, I joined many of my House and Senate colleagues in writing a letter to President Biden, pressing him to answer several urgent questions about the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on Americans both at home and abroad. Read the letter here.
Bridging Health Care Gaps
Clinical trials often fail to recruit diverse participants, resulting in low confidence in vaccines among minority groups. This problem can be devastating as, over the past year and a half, COVID-19 disproportionately affected communities of color.
That’s why I introduced the DIVERSE Trials Act earlier this month to support education, outreach, and recruitment for clinical trials. Not only will this help instill confidence in future medical treatments, but it will also work to bridge the racial disparities in our health care system.
Sincerely,
