Preserving America As We Know It
As many of you know, I didn’t grow up wealthy—not by a long shot. But thanks to a good education, a praying mother, and a mentor who taught me about conservative economic principles, I found a path out of poverty. Today it’s my goal to ensure every kid across America has the opportunity to do the same.
The Democrats, however, have proposed a $3.5 trillion tax-and-spending bill that would fundamentally alter our nation and stifle the opportunities I’m fighting to protect. The cost of this bill is appalling, but the content is just as bad—giving tax breaks to billionaires and having the IRS spy on every single transaction above $600.
This week, I raised concerns about the bill’s detrimental impacts in a speech on the Senate floor and in a Senate banking committee hearing.

I also joined several of my Republican colleagues at a press conference aptly titled “Dems in Disarray.” Under the Biden administration, Americans have witnessed crisis after crisis over the past few months. And now—in the midst of roaring inflation—Democrats want to tax and spend even more. Spending money we don’t have on policies we don’t need? That’s not how Americans manage their finances, and it’s not how our government should either.

Tucked in the Democrats’ enormous spending bill is another harmful policy: government-mandated drug pricing. Our free-market fosters innovation that has led to nearly-miraculous medical advances over the last few decades, from cures for rare diseases to increased lifespans. Handing over drug pricing to the federal government would not only stifle that innovation, but it would also make lifesaving medications costlier and less accessible.
As ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, I’m working to ensure our vulnerable populations, like seniors, can access the treatments they need. This morning, I released a full report on the negative impact drug pricing would have on medical innovation, drug accessibility, and our economy as a whole. Read more about the “Putting Patients First” report here.

I am proud to live in a nation where anyone—even someone like me, who grew up poor and struggled in school—can achieve their dreams. As long as I’m serving as your senator, I’ll do everything within my power to push back on the Democrats’ plans and keep the American Dream alive.
Sincerely,
