Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Creating Local Solutions For Local Needs
Click here to watch Ranking Member Scott’s opening remarks.
During this week’s U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing on public transportation, I emphasized the importance of empowering local communities – not the federal government – to make decisions on local transportation. I urged against the federal government’s one-size-fits-all approach and expressed my commitment to allowing local communities to develop innovative structures that fit their unique needs.
South Carolinian James Keel, Director of Public Transportation for Greenlink in Greenville, South Carolina, answered questions from senators on the committee as one of three witnesses. Director Keel highlighted that as the third fastest growing state, South Carolina’s development of a robust infrastructure plan is vital to propelling our communities to success.

Accountability For Our Taxpayer Dollars
This week, the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance held a hearing with Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Janet Yellen. During the hearing, we focused on President Biden’s bloated budget. I joined my colleagues on the committee in questioning Secretary Yellen on the administration’s budget request, which includes over $5 trillion in tax hikes and will increase the national debt by nearly $20 trillion over the next ten years.
Tax-paying Americans deserve answers about this administration’s reckless spending that created record inflation and rising interest rates - ultimately leading to the failure of Silicon Valley Bank. I will continue fighting to create economic opportunity in South Carolina and across our nation that empowers every American to succeed.

Protecting Americans’ Healthcare
A February 2023 proposal from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) includes changes to the diagnostic system for some chronic conditions, such as diabetes and congestive heart failure, that could cause disruptions in care and sudden premium increases.
To protect Americans’ coverage, I joined my Republican colleagues on the Senate Committee on Finance in penning a letter urging government health officials to take steps to prevent adverse outcomes for patients who rely on Medicare Advantage (MA). I will continue the fight to protect Medicare Advantage to ensure our most vulnerable have access to the healthcare they depend on.

The #SCSweetTea on Our Dedicated Bus Drivers
For #SCSweetTea, I am highlighting three phenomenal bus drivers from the Charleston County School District! Demetrica George, Sandra Brantley, and Jackie Washington achieved a five-star safety rating for the vital service they provide every day.
When our kids board school buses each morning to receive their education, it’s truly a blessing to know we have drivers like Demetrica, Sandra, and Jackie behind the wheel. With almost 100 years of service between all three of them, it’s no wonder they set the standard for safety in Charleston County School District.
