Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

What a week! I had the opportunity to meet with Major General Van McCarthy, Adjutant General of the South Carolina National Guard, and other military leaders. I am grateful for work they do to keep our communities safe!

I also worked to hold the Biden administration accountable for their disastrous economic policies and protect the American Dream! While working hard for South Carolina, my team and I carried on one of my favorite traditions—Peach Day!

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

– Colossians 3:23-24

The Week In Review

California is not the standard

I recently joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and 30 of our Senate colleagues in defending America’s rail industry by opposing an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waiver requested by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Rail travel is America’s cleanest and most efficient mode of transportation, yet the CARB's proposed In-Use Locomotive Regulation seems to ignore this fact, appeasing climate radicals while threatening the nation’s railroads. The EPA should not allow the CARB to enforce this rule, as it is extremely costly, disruptive to the supply chain, and infeasible given the current state of technology.

Banking on a Better Economy

This week, during a Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing, I highlighted the effects of Bidenomics directly to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. The bottom line is that Joe Biden broke our economy, and fixing it will be very difficult. It isn’t just President Biden’s economic policies, but also the administration’s burdensome regulations, that are stifling growth in America.

Fox News Opinion: Here's why I admire Sen Tim Scott – and why you should too

By Corey Brooks

July 9, 2024

I have always liked U.S. Sen. Tim Scott. I’ve met him a few times and we had a great time when he came to tour the construction site for my Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center on the South Side of Chicago.

We have much in common – we both descend from that horrible America legacy of slavery, we’re country boys at heart born to single mothers, we’ve endured racism, and we live out in the open as Black conservatives.

But that’s not why I’ve grown to admire Tim Scott over the years – admiration can only come with the test of time.

My friends Hank and Laurel Greer were awarded the Order of the Palmetto – our state’s highest civilian honor – by Governor McMaster. The Greers are guided by their deep faith in the Lord and I am so grateful for their unwavering commitment to making South Carolina a better place. #SCSweetTea
