Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week marked the third anniversary of the start of the Biden-Harris administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal, where we lost 13 U.S. servicemembers, erased decades of progress, and abandoned our partners on the world stage. Our troops and allies needed strong and strategic leadership, something President Biden and Vice President Harris failed to provide. This catastrophic withdrawal tarnished our reputation on the world stage, emboldened our adversaries, and can never be repeated.

We will return to strong American leadership at home and abroad; I am confident in that.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 4:6-7

The Week in Review

Combatting Campus Antisemitism

This week, President Shafik resigned from Columbia University. This is good news! Under her leadership, Columbia University turned into a breeding ground for hatred towards our Jewish brothers and sisters—this is why I called for her resignation in April. Columbia’s next president must be committed to defending free speech AND the ability of all students to walk campus safely.

I am highlighting the legacy and life of Greenwood, SC native Dr. Benjamin E. Mays for the #SCSweetTea of the week! The Hill: GOP lawmakers celebrate resignation of Columbia University president

By Miranda Nazzaro

A host of Republican lawmakers celebrated the resignation of Columbia University President Minouche Shafik following heavy scrutiny over her handling of the school’s protests and tensions over the Israel-Hamas war.

Shafik’s tenure, which began a little over a year ago, saw the university become ground zero for pro-Palestinian demonstrations that roiled the New York campus and other schools across the country for weeks last spring. The demonstrations at Columbia involved student encampments, a building occupation and hundreds of arrests.

Shafik announced her resignation, effective immediately, in a message to the Columbia community on Wednesday…

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) similarly called Shafik’s resignation “long overdue” and alleged her administration “routinely undermined Jewish students’ rights.”

“Columbia’s next president must be committed to defending free speech AND the ability of all students to walk campus safely,” he wrote on X.
