Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As I reflect on my journey serving the people of South Carolina, I can say without a doubt that I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the unwavering love, support, and discipline that my mother has provided me throughout my life. This past Tuesday, I had the privilege of celebrating her birthday–a day to honor not just the incredible woman she is, but the countless ways she has shaped and influenced who I am today! As I celebrate her, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for everything she has done and continues to do.

Happy Birthday, Mama!

Enhancing Accountability to the Disaster Loan Account

South Carolinians are resilient, and they deserve effective, top-of-the-line disaster response efforts. That’s why I reintroduced the SBA Disaster Transparency Act, which makes simple but necessary reforms to the Disaster Loan Account that will provide increased transparency and ensure Congress is able to act before it’s too late. This legislation requires the Small Business Administration to make its monthly reporting requirements for the Disaster Loan Account available to the public. That way, we can help ensure those impacted receive the support and funding they deserve.

Shining Light on Debanking

Living in a free and fair society means having access to financial services. Every federally legal business and law-abiding citizen deserves to be treated equally, regardless of political views or ideological leanings. Unfortunately, under Operation Chokepoint 2.0, Biden regulators abused their power and forced financial institutions to cut off services to digital asset firms, political figures, and conservative-aligned businesses and individuals. On Wednesday, the Senate Banking Committee held a hearing focused on shining a bright light on these unacceptable practices and to hold those responsible accountable.

Congratulations, Secretary Turner!

On Wednesday, the Senate voted to confirm Scott Turner as President Trump’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, I spoke on the floor to highlight Secretary Turner’s life story, qualifications to lead HUD, and our shared goal of addressing the housing crisis and increasing access to quality, affordable housing opportunities for Americans across the country.

During Secretary Turner’s hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, I highlighted Mr. Turner’s record and leadership directing investments in Opportunity Zones, the initiative I authored under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to increase development in economically distressed communities.

I look forward to working with Secretary Turner to cut bureaucratic red tape, advance commonsense housing solutions, and put more Americans on the path to homeownership!

Fox News: 'STOP MADNESS': Tools to sanction bad actors 'fueling' illegal immigration is focus of Scott, Moreno bill

By Brooke Singman

February 3, 2025

Republican Sens. Tim Scott and Bernie Moreno rolled out a measure to provide President Donald Trump with tools to sanction bad actors "fueling" illegal immigration, Fox News Digital has learned.

Scott, R-S.C., and Moreno, R-Ohio, rolled out the Stop Madness Act on Monday, which they said would give the president the power to place economic sanctions on foreign entities facilitating illegal immigration into the United States.

Specifically, the bill would ensure the president can impose sanctions on foreign governments that refuse to accept the return of their citizens who have unlawfully entered the U.S. — denying them access to the U.S. financial system.
