Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, let us take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact that mothers have on our lives—not just in the early years, but through every stage of life. Mothers show us what it means to lead with love, patience, and resilience. Their presence is steady, their sacrifices often unseen, and their love—unconditional.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures—we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you every day!

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.

Delivering Remarks at Opportunity Zone Summit

On Thursday, I delivered remarks at a summit on Opportunity Zones (OZs) hosted by Great Opportunity Policy. The event covered various aspects of OZs, including commercial innovation, private sector investment, and sustainability growth. By attracting long-term investments into underserved communities, we are not just boosting the economy, we are unlocking hope and opportunity for individuals and families who need it most. These zones are about more than just numbers, they are about transforming lives and building stronger communities.

Calling Out Democrats for Putting Politics Ahead of Historic Digital Assets Legislation

After Democrats voted against a procedural step to begin consideration of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, I spoke on the Senate floor and called out Democrats for playing politics with bipartisan legislation. The GENIUS Act, a bill to establish the first ever regulatory framework for payment stablecoins, was the result of months of bipartisan negotiations and extensive consultation with industry participants, academic experts, and government stakeholders.

Tackling Workforce Shortages in the Aviation Industry

This week, I reintroduced the Aviation Workforce Development Act, which aims to address the growing demand for skilled pilots and aviation maintenance technicians. This legislation is an essential investment in the future of American aviation. As record numbers of air travelers visit South Carolina each year, this legislation will open doors for aspiring pilots and aviation maintenance technicians by ensuring they can play a vital role in the state’s aviation workforce.

Paving the Way for Productivity and Prosperity

I am thrilled that we are now one step closer to eliminating the Biden-era NESHAP rule driven by radical environmentalism that did nothing but hurt workers and businesses across the nation. I joined Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) in applauding the passage of my Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the unnecessary U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Rubber Tire Manufacturing National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) rule in the Senate.

Restoring the Rule of Law and Protecting Our Communities

This week, I joined my Republican colleagues in introducing the Justice for American Victims of Illegal Aliens Act, which would codify President Trump’s Executive Order subjecting illegal immigrants who kill American citizens to the death penalty. Under the Biden administration’s open-border agenda, illegal immigration surged—and with it, a horrifying rise in violent crimes committed by those who should never have been here in the first place. This legislation will help restore the rule of law, protect our communities, and ensure that no more families suffer the kind of unimaginable loss that so many already have. We owe it to the victims and their families to hold these criminals fully accountable.

Meeting with the U.S. Conference of Mayors Leadership

I had the pleasure of meeting with the U.S. Conference of Mayors Leadership to discuss various issues. From affordable housing to protecting tax-exempt municipal bonds, it was great to hear ways we can partner and strengthen these communities. I’ll keep fighting to make life better for hard-working families in SC and across America.

Washington Examiner: Senate votes to cancel Biden standards on tire manufacturing emissions

By Maydeen Merino

May 6, 2025

Senators on Tuesday voted to overturn Biden administrationregulations limiting emissions from tire manufacturing, sending the resolution to President Donald Trump’s desk for a signature.

In a 55-45 vote, the Senate passed a resolution that would undo the Environmental Protection Agency’s standards relating to hazardous air pollutants from rubber tire facilities. The bill passed the House in March. It was introduced by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and advanced through the Congressional Review Act, which provides an expedited process for Congress to cancel rules, bypassing the filibuster in the Senate.

Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) sponsored the resolution in the Senate.

The “rule is counterproductive in every sense and the type of government inefficiency and overreach Americans are sick of,” Scott said. “It will increase emissions and cost job creators millions in compliance expenses each year.”
