Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As Tax Day approaches, there’s good news for hardworking Americans: real relief is on the way. The Working Families Tax Cuts deliver meaningful, pro-growth solutions that put more money back in your pocket. From ensuring individuals in the lowest tax bracket see a 15% tax cut to permanently increasing the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child, this is about putting American families first and delivering lasting relief where it matters most - helping you build financial security and pursue your American Dream!

Week in Review

Expanding and Modernizing Opportunity Zones in South Carolina

I was proud to author Opportunity Zones as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act—an innovative tool that empowers states to identify economically distressed communities and connect them with a powerful incentive to drive private investment where it’s needed most. Made permanent under the Working Families Tax Cuts, South Carolina will now begin the next phase of Opportunity Zones. The SC Department of Commerce will work closely with Governor Henry McMaster, local governments, and community stakeholders to prioritize our communities in need. Communities in the Palmetto State are invited to submit nominations through June 1, 2026, as part of a statewide effort to prioritize areas for future investment!

Meeting With the Catawba Nation Leadership

During my visit with Chief Brian Harris and the Catawba Nation leadership, I had the chance to see Black Snake Farm and hear more about the tribe’s community development projects, from infrastructure improvements to economic initiatives. Their work reflects the Catawba Nation’s resilience, self-determination, and commitment to strengthening their community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to see these projects firsthand and to discuss how federal support can continue to empower their efforts!

Recognizing Minority Health Month

April is Minority Health Month, a time to recognize the importance of ensuring every American has the opportunity to live a healthy, full life. I’m proud to champion policies that invest in research, prevention, and support for the health challenges facing minority communities from South Carolina to families across our nation. I’ll continue to push to advance solutions that offer hope for life-saving research and life-enhancing treatments and care, such as the Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Reauthorization Act, which would improve treatment and care for Americans living with sickle cell disease.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

Goose Creek High School students are making an impact in their community by assisting families through their student-run food pantry. Students have taken initiative with the Gator Pantry from building the shelving, coordinating donations within the community, and setting up an easily accessible blessing box. From birthday cakes to toiletries, these students are making a meaningful difference to lessen the burden of financial stress for others. “Having a food pantry that they know is here for them shows just how much they trust us, how much they believe in what we are doing, and ultimately they understand that we are all in it together,” said Will Wilson, the school’s principal.

Daily Signal: A GOP Senator’s Fight for Life Continues on Capitol Hill

By Virginia Grace McKinnon

Taxpayers’ money once spent on funding abortions could now be permanently safeguarded for pregnancy centers to support women and families. The federal government grants more than $16 billion every year to support families, and soon that could include protecting life.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has reintroduced the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act to protect funding for pregnancy centers and provide critical support for families.

“Supporting women means ensuring they have real resources, real care, and real options,” Scott said. He said the bill will offer “guidance, support, and critical services, so no mother faces pregnancy or parenthood alone.”
