Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

Making the American Dream more attainable has always been at the heart of my mission serving the people of South Carolina, and affordability is key to that goal. I’ve worked alongside my Republican colleagues in Congress to turn that mission into real results for the American people. This Tax Day, hardworking Americans are seeing nearly $300 a month back in their pockets thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts - real relief that Democrats opposed and Republicans delivered. From voting against the Working Families Tax Cuts to blocking funding for the Department of Homeland Security, Democrats have too often chosen political games over the best interests of the American people. I’ll continue fighting for hardworking South Carolinians and the opportunity for every individual to achieve their American Dream!

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

Week in Review

More Money In Your Pocket

This tax season, Americans are experiencing the benefits of the Working Families Tax Cuts! More than $280B is going back to Americans because of Republicans’ efforts to make life more affordable. Taxpayers are reaping the benefits from charitable contribution deductions to no tax on tips, overtime, auto loan interests, and Social Security. This is real results delivering real relief. The Working Families Tax Cuts is allowing Americans to keep more money in their pockets and expanding opportunities for them to live their American Dream!

Funding Our National Security

The reason our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its hardworking employees continue to face uncertainty is because Democrats who swore an oath to protect and defend the United States have failed to do their jobs. They have repeatedly voted against funding DHS and made it clear that their personal and political interest is more important than the safety and security of American families here at home. Funding our national security is too important for political games. Republicans are working to use a budget tool to fund DHS and make sure that Americans here at home and abroad are safe - without requiring a single Democrat vote to get this done.

Saving America’s Elections

The truth is: the great majority of Americans – including more than 80% of Hispanic Americans and 75% of African Americans - support what Democrats in Congress won’t: commonsense legislation to protect the integrity of our elections. The SAVE America Act makes it easier to vote and harder to cheat. Americans understand that ensuring voter integrity is essential for maintaining trust in our elections. Let’s get it done for the American people, because commonsense election integrity isn’t partisan – it’s popular!

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

Over the weekend, hundreds of volunteers gathered on Folly Beach for the annual Toby’s Earth Month Island-Wide Spring Litter Sweep on a mission to protect the environment and marine life by helping to keep the beaches, marshes, and streets clean. Volunteers fanned out across five cleanup stations with gloves, trash pickers, buckets, and bags, uniting residents, visitors, the South Carolina Aquarium, and local community groups. During the beach sweep, volunteers also saved a juvenile Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, one of the most endangered species of sea turtles. Thank you to all those who came out to keep our South Carolina beaches clean and wildlife protected!

Post and Courier: Scott highlights Opportunity Zones expansion

By: Post and Courier Staff Report

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., is highlighting the expansion and modernization of the federal Opportunity Zones program as South Carolina prepares to begin a new round of designations under recently updated law.

Originally authored by Scott and enacted through the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Opportunity Zones were created to drive private investment into economically distressed communities by offering targeted federal tax incentives. The program allows governors to designate eligible census tracts and connect them with investors to spur economic development, job creation and revitalization.

More than 50 million Americans live in economically distressed communities, and the program aims to direct long-term capital into areas that have historically struggled with poverty, lower incomes and limited access to opportunity.
