LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, AND SOLUTIONS

September 18, 2026

Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

In a fitting tribute to my friend, Lindsey Graham, I was proud to see the Russia and Iran sanctions bill he championed pass the House and head to President Trump’s desk to get signed into law. This bill imposes sanctions on Russia and countries that aid Russia’s war against Ukraine. The legislation includes a version of my Solidify Iran Sanctions Act, extending key sanctions against Iran to cut off its ability to finance terrorism and develop its nuclear program. These measures will strengthen America’s national security and hold our adversaries accountable.

“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

The Week in Review

Supporting Those Aiding In Addiction Recovery

Organizations helping individuals overcome addiction should be able to focus their time and resources on helping people, not navigating bureaucracy. I introduced the Addiction Grants Modernization Act to streamline how organizations find and apply for federal grants supporting substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. This bill would create a centralized website and application process for addiction-related grants, reducing administrative burdens while preserving existing programs. By making these resources easier to access, we can better support organizations providing critical care in South Carolina and communities across the country.

Meeting With West Point Cadets

I enjoyed sitting down with West Point cadets to share some of the lessons I have learned during my time in Washington. We discussed the importance of leadership and effective communication, values these young men and women exemplify at the U.S. Military Academy. I am confident about the future of our nation because of young leaders like these who are stepping forward to serve a cause greater than themselves.

Protecting Families, Businesses, and Taxpayers

As Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, I led an executive session to consider legislation to reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program. As someone who ran an insurance business in South Carolina before coming to Congress, I know an insurance policy is about more than a piece of paper. It is about protecting what you have worked a lifetime to build. For a small business owner, terrorism insurance can mean the ability to reopen after an attack. For an employee, it can mean having a job to return to. The current program works well and runs through the end of 2027, but businesses do not plan one year at a time. Congress should act now to provide certainty for businesses and protect the jobs that support American families.

Small businesses are the backbone of communities across South Carolina. From the Upstate to the Lowcountry, business owners keep our economy moving forward and communities vibrant. Debbie Peek owns a small business in Central, a town she has always called home. Often called the cheerleader for her town, Debbie and her business are an essential part of this special community. “I am proud of where our town has been, excited about where it is going, and honored to play a small part in its story,” says Debbie. South Carolinians like Debbie bring the energy, pride, and community spirit that make the Palmetto State the best place to call home!

Senate Banking Chairman Tim Scott advances key financial market and housing initiatives

U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, continues to drive federal legislative momentum on federal digital asset frameworks and housing market accessibility. […]

At the center of these legislative priorities is a focus on broadening economic opportunity. Reflecting on the goal of these financial and housing market updates, Sen. Scott emphasized that “the American Dream should be more available for everybody in every ZIP code and making that happen means we have to do the right thing, even when it’s hard. This is not a political issue. This should not be Republicans versus Democrats. This should be about whether or not America and Americans will benefit from the evolution of financial markets.”
