Determined to tackle our national debt, Senator Romney introduced legislation this week to require Congress to budget for natural disasters. He also participated in several committee hearings, including a Foreign Relations hearing focused on Afghanistan and Homeland Security hearing with the acting DHS Secretary on the situation at our southern border.

 

Federal law should follow Utah's lead in raising the national age for purchasing tobacco products to 21. Senator Romney and Representative Chris Stewart, sponsors of the Tobacco to 21 Act in the Senate and House respectively, wrote an op-ed making the case for their legislation. As the Senator mentioned when stating why he voted against the spending bill, Congress needs to start budgeting for natural disasters. That's why earlier in the week, Senator Romney (along with Sen. Lee [R-UT], Sen. Braun [R-IN], and Sen. Toomey [R-PA]) introduced legislation (seen submitting below) that would require disaster spending to be build into the annual budget process.

As Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's subcommittee dealing with the Middle East, Senator Romney met with Iraqi Ambassador to the U.S. Fareed Yasseen to discuss the ongoing issues in the region. Senator Romney was in Iraq last month on his first trip overseas as a Senator.
