Senator Rick Scott campaigned on a plan to Make Washington Work for Floridians – and that means fighting for priorities that matter most to Florida families.

This week, Senator Scott announced his Fighting for Florida budget agenda, which includes three specific priorities he plans to focus on for this year's budget. There are many priorities critical to Florida’s future that Senator Scott plans to fight for in the U.S. Senate, like lowering the cost of prescription drugs, promoting freedom and democracy in Latin America, and Making Washington Work for families, but this year’s budget agenda is focused on three areas:

  • Continue growing the economy and investing in Florida’s Ports.
  • Support for the military and their families.
  • Protecting the environment for generations to come.

Also this week, Senator Scott sponsored a resolution urging the President to continue efforts to find and return Robert Levinson, a retired FBI agent who disappeared in Iran on March 9, 2007, a bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal to World World War II veteran Master Sergeant Rodrick "Roddie" Edmonds, and a resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the United Negro College Fund.

Sen. Rick Scott Announces Fighting For Florida Budget Agenda

Senator Rick Scott announced his Fighting for Florida budget agenda, which details specific priorities the Senator plans to fight for in this year’s Congressional budget and appropriations process. Senator Scott is a member of the Senate Budget Committee.

Senator Rick Scott said, “There are many priorities critical to Florida’s future that I plan to fight for in the United States Senate, including lowering the cost of prescription drugs, promoting freedom and democracy in Latin America, strengthening our economy and reforming Washington to make it actually work for families. In addition to that, the appropriations process is about to begin in the U.S. Senate, and I plan to aggressively fight for key investments for Florida’s families.

“My Fighting for Florida budget agenda highlights three specific areas that promote Florida’s success. These are investments needed to continue growing our economy, supporting our military and their families, and making sure our environment is protected for generations to come. I look forward to working with my colleagues to fund these important projects that protect Florida’s future.” Read more HERE.

Scott, Rubio & Colleagues: White House Budget Request Short Changes Florida Everglades Restoration

Senator Rick Scott, Senator Marco Rubio, Representative Brian Mast, and Representative Francis Rooney released the following joint statement after President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget request to Congress failed to include sufficient funding for Everglades restoration efforts. Last month, Senator Scott, Senator Rubio, and Florida Governor DeSantis urged President Trump to include a commitment of $200 million in construction funding for South Florida Ecosystem Restoration (SFER).

“For the third year in a row, the administration’s budget request underfunds critical projects in South Florida. It is incredibly short-sighted to continue to underfund a series of projects that are absolutely necessary to ensure the environmental sustainability and economic vitality of one of the most dynamic regions of our nation. Everglades restoration is critically important to the State of Florida and enjoys broad bipartisan support in Congress. Failing to meet the basic federal funding commitments to restore the Everglades is contrary to the administration’s goal of improving project partnerships and cost-sharing with states. Successive Florida Governors have remained committed to this goal, pushing state funding of this 50/50 federal-state partnership to historic highs. Congress and the Army Corps of Engineers envisioned a $200 million per year federal commitment when the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan was first authorized nearly 20 years ago, and it is time for the administration to meet that commitment.” Read more HERE.
