A Message From Thom:

While Congress has been in recess over the past two weeks, I’ve been keeping busy, focusing on national security issues and ensuring veterans are receiving the care they need and deserve. I had the opportunity to travel with several of my Senate colleagues to Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan and meet with foreign leaders. During the trip, I also had the honor of visiting with North Carolina troops stationed abroad.

After returning home, I toured Ft. Bragg and visited Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Fayetteville, Durham, and Salisbury to receive updates on how the VA is implementing reforms to improve the delivery of health care services for veterans.

As I return to Washington, I will continue to push for commonsense legislation that protects you and your families and improves the lives of our brave military personnel and veterans.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of my offices in North Carolina or Washington with questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you again across the state.

God Bless,

What Thom's Been Up To:

Fighting for Increased National Security

Thom recently traveled to the Middle East with Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and several other senators. After meeting with foreign leaders and top military officials, Thom is even more determined to keep American troops in Afghanistan to avoid making a similar mistake when the U.S. removed our military presence in Iraq.

Protecting the 440th Airlift Wing at Pope Air Force Base

Thom is leading the fight to keep the 440th Airlift Wing open at Pope Air Force Base. Whether it is questioning the strategy behind closing the airlift wing or placing a hold on all Air Force nominations until basic questions regarding the closure are answered, Thom will continue to demand accountability and do everything he can keep the airlift wing open.

Working with the XVIII Airborne Corps

While visiting Ft. Bragg, Thom was able to meet with members of the XVIII Airborne Corps, where he joined Paratroopers in a C-130 Hercules aircraft during a training operation.

Pushing for Better VA Facilities

Last week, Thom toured VA medical centers across North Carolina to receive updates on the VA’s progress on improving care for our veterans and reducing unacceptable wait times and backlogs. It is Thom’s priority to ensure North Carolina’s VA medical centers and facilities are adequately serving and truly prioritizing the needs of the brave men and women who have served our nation.
