This week, Senator Romney participated in several virtual events with folks across Utah, including a meeting with Kane County businesses, a town hall with Silicon Slopes, and a foreign policy discussion with World Trade Center Utah and the Salt Lake Chamber. He offered his views on navigating the unparalleled challenges of COVID-19 and how the pandemic has served as a global wake-up call to the challenges we face from China. After introducing the JUSTICE Act last week, Senate Republicans attempted to bring the legislation to the Senate floor for consideration. Senator Romney released this statement after Senate Democrats unfortunately blocked the legislation from debate: "Given the substantial overlap between this bill and Democratic proposals—including provisions aimed at ending chokeholds, improving transparency, and strengthening training and accountability—it makes no sense for Democrats to block us from even debating this legislation. We should have a full and robust debate about these issues, as the American people have demanded of us."

COVID-19 has highlighted the increasing threat of China to the global order. Senator Romney joined the Salt Lake Chamber and World Trade Center Utah for a discussion on the changing US-China relationship and what it means for Utah companies who conduct business in China. During a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing dealing with oversight of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Senator Romney advocated for making the E-Verify system mandatory and asked acting CBP director Mark Morgan about what's being done to address the economic pull factors that encourage illegal immigration.

While our armed services have proven effective at recruiting talent, we must find ways to increase participation in national and public service. During a Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee hearing reviewing recommendations made by the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, Senator Romney inquired about ways in which the federal government can better recruit the nation’s best and brightest students.

Senator Romney participated in a Silicon Slopes town hall titled “Small Business & Leadership in Times of Crisis,” moderated by Traeger Grill's CEO Jeremy Andrus. During the conversation, the Senator shared his thoughts with entrepreneurs struggling during this pandemic and spoke about his goals for a potential phase four COVID-19 relief package.
