Unemployment benefits have now expired, and millions of unemployed workers are facing extreme financial uncertainty while Congress continues to negotiate the next relief package. Senator Romney teamed up with Senators Collins (R-ME) and McSally (R-AZ) to introduce a measure to extend currently expired unemployment insurance benefits through the end of the year and incentivize states to update their UI processing systems. “Let’s work together to make sure Americans don’t face additional burdens as a result of a sudden lapse in benefits,” Senator Romney said.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce commended the senators’ solution: "This legislation strikes a sensible balance of maintaining vital income support during the pandemic while avoiding disincentives for returning to work. The U.S. Chamber commends Senators Collins, McSally, and Romney for their efforts on this pressing issue and urges Senate leaders to give this reasonable proposal bipartisan support."

Small businesses and community organizations are vital to the health and livelihoods of Utah’s rural communities, and they have faced great hardship over the last several months. Senator Romney teamed up with Senators Tester (D-MT) and King (I-ME) to introduce the Rural Equal Aid Act—legislation which would enhance support for rural communities, family farms, and small businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro is being propped up by Russia, China, Iran, and Cuba—which are using Venezuela as a playground for nefarious activities. During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing to assess the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Venezuela, Senator Romney spoke about the need to get serious about dissuading these bad actors from pursuing their current course in Venezuela, and urged the Administration to unequivocally recognize Juan Guaidó as the legitimate President.
This week, Major General Michael J. Turley, commander of the Utah National Guard, was promoted from the rank of Brigadier General. With 35 years of service to our country, this is an honor well-deserved. Congratulations, Maj. Gen. Turley!
