With the President and First Lady, and Utah Senator Mike Lee, announcing that they have tested positive for COVID-19, our thoughts and prayers are with them and all the others who have been afflicted with illness. As Utah continues to see high numbers of new cases, we encourage folks to continue following public health guidance, including wearing masks and practicing proper social distancing. In Washington this week, Senator Romney met with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the President’s nominee to serve as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. As Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee focused on the Middle East, Senator Romney urged the Administration to brief the Senate on the situation surrounding reports that they plan to fully withdraw U.S. diplomatic forces from its embassy in Baghdad. He also met virtually with several groups of Utahns, including representatives of the Salt Lake Chamber, the Navajo Nation, and Utah bankers. Keep scrolling for a brief recap of Senator Romney’s week:

Senator Romney released this statement following the President’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court: “Amy Coney Barrett is a highly-respected jurist with distinguished legal and academic credentials. My constitutional role to provide advice and consent on a Supreme Court nomination is one of my most serious responsibilities as a senator, and I believe our next justice must faithfully apply the law and our Constitution, impartially and regardless of policy preferences. I look forward to meeting with Judge Barrett, reviewing her record thoroughly, and carefully evaluating her qualifications."

Following her nomination, Senator Romney met with Judge Barrett and released this statement: “I enjoyed meeting Judge Barrett, and we had an informative, wide-ranging discussion about her impressive background and her judicial philosophy. I look forward to her upcoming testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee."
